Remember each plant is a unique living thing and may have varying needs, especially in their individual locations. When dusting the leaves, also take the opportunity to inspect the undersides and keep an eye out for pests. Rotate your plant periodically to ensure even growth on all sides and dust the leaves often so the plant can photosynthesize efficiently. They are sensitive to root rot and overwatering, so when in doubt let it drought. In the winter months it’s best to allow the soil to dry completely through the pot as these plants go into a dormancy, even indoors. When the soil is dry 2/3 of the way down in the pot, then the plant is ready for a drink. The String of Hearts plant has a succulent-like nature, so they prefer periods of drought between waterings. We compact the soil to avoid shifting during transit, so aerating can help the soil breathe and allow moisture to be released. Also, consider aerating the soil of your plant before the initial watering. Before giving your plant a drink, it is best to check the moisture level in the soil first to ensure it isn’t moist right beneath the surface.
